As C.J. casually chats with dinner guests, there's one person in the room that he purposely avoids: Susan Snu, the event planner. The Damon Runyon Award

The Denver Press Club Board of Directors has named Emmy Award-winning journalist Tim Russert as recipient of the 14th Annual Damon Runyon Award.
Russert will accept the award at a banquet in his honor on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Denver Marriott City Center.

"Tim Russert is the perfect choice," DPC President Bruce Goldberg said. "In a year when Denver takes center stage as the site of the Democratic National Convention, there’s no one better when it comes to telling the stories of a presidential campaign."
Russert is the managing editor and moderator of "Meet the Press" and political analyst for "NBC Nightly News" and the "Today" program. He anchors the "Tim Russert Show," a weekly interview program on MSNBC. He serves as senior vice president and Washington bureau chief of NBC News.

He took over the helm of "Meet the Press" in December 1991. Since then, the program has become the most-watched Sunday morning talk show in America. Russert has interviewed every major figure on the American political scene.
Russert is also the author of two best-selling books, "Big Russ and Me," a memoir of his father, and "Wisdom of Our Fathers."

Each year, the club presents the Runyon award to a journalist whose work best exemplifies the vivid writing style of Damon Runyon, an early member of the Denver Press Club in 1906-07.
Runyon wrote for The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News before going on to fame and glory in New York City as one of the best-read columnists of his day. His collection of short stories, Guys and Dolls, later became the basis for the famous musical.

Previous recipients of the award include Jimmy Breslin, Mike Royko, Molly Ivins, Herb Caen, Pete Hamill, Ted Turner, Maureen Dowd, Tom Brokaw, David Halberstam, Ed Bradley, Carl Hiaasen, Seymour Hersh, George Will and Bob Costas.

For more information on the award, contact Bruce Goldberg at 303-803-9226 or John Ensslin at 303-882-9029.
